a profound change in form from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism

As yet another year passes i start to reminisce of the past, like growing up in California in the 90’s. I hadn’t really notice before but apparently, i still use some slang/phrases from back in my childhood and once in a while some kid from church or other, will point out a phrase that i use, like “I’ts all good in the neighborhood” or “for shizzle, my nizzle”; apparently these sound silly and foreign to them since they’re too young to have ever heard it used before Haha… At these moments i realize how i am yet another year older and i am saddened to think that a new generation has come and that the 90’s is just gonna become some fade that Urban Outfitters is/will make a huge profit out of. Now don’t get me wrong, i love shopping at UO once in a while (when i can afford it), and it’s exactly for the reason that they sell such nostalgic products; but i guess what i’m trying to say is that every year we grow older and further away from all the memories of our childhood and the things that made our time period “da bomb”. Things that once were cool growing up are pushed aside in order to make room for the new, “mature” and “appropriate for your age” kind of cool, and the only time that some of us seem to be able to reminisce about the coolest time of our lives is through advertisements that some company makes in order to put a price on what they know is a missing happy memory of our past. I may not be an economist or a business major but it’s clear to me that the only reason why new businesses are formed is because there is a void, that people have for something which they feel the need to fill, therefore these companies formulate a substitute ”need” and attach a price tag to it so they can profit from it.
(K, nuff said about corporate greed)
I guess the point that i’m trying to make is that, there shouldn’t be a need for us to buy back those memories of our most invincible childhood moments or any Stuff. Instead of waiting for some money making group of people to renew the coolness of our childhood we should make everyday an opportunity to reminisce with our fellow and learning from those older then us and most importantly keeping all our memories alive showing all the youngsters how cool our time period was! Doing things like sharing stories of our childhood, using/ explaining old terms/slang or phrases and listening to music from our childhood or watching an old favorite are just some of the things that i try to do with my younger family members. I’ll be damned if my future kids have never seen or heard a cassette tape much less a record disc by the time they can talk. I want my future kids to not just know about their past, but to be able to live in it and learn to appreciate it as much as i have learned to appreciate my own.
Every generation’s history is made up of different memories but it’s how they are preserved and through what form they are kept alive that truly holds meaning and real memories that can be passed on to generations thereafter.
…just a thought.
